2013 was certainly a big year for me and this little blog of mine. Writing has been something that I have been doing for years but it was often done in secret, like a little dream I had that I wasn’t nearly brave enough to share. But that all changed when earlier this summer I was challenged to live out the thing that I had dreamed about and from that , this blog was born.
To say that it’s been crazy is an understatement. I had a post go viral, meaning that within 24 hours of posting it I had nearly 10,000 views. For someone who has been writing in secret, that is more than a little frightening. And if you ever want to know exactly what people think about your writing, don’t ask your friends. Ask people you will never meet who are sitting behind a screen, cause they don’t hold anything back. You guys, I had to use Urban Dictionary to figure out if some of the name I had been called were good or bad. And just so you know, they were bad. Like *@#$ kinda bad.
I also had the opportunity to guest post on the blogs of so many incredible bloggers. For me, it’s like the writing equivalent of being invited to someone’s family dinner and such a huge honor. I even stepped further out of my comfort zone and entered a writing contest and won second place and I was thrilled to be asked to join the incredible team of writers at Internet Cafe Devotions as a monthly writer and I look forward continuing on with that in 2014.
To those of you who have followed along with me, to say thank you is simply not enough to express how grateful I am. You have encouraged me and indulged me and you’ve provided me with a safe place to express myself and to process through this amazing life I have been given.
These are not only my top five posts for 2013 in terms of page views, but also pieces that I am incredibly proud of.
The beginning of 2014 will find me taking a bit of a different path for a while as I devote my time to my second favorite thing, The Bachelor! If you are a super fan like I am you HAVE to play along with us in our Bachelor Fantasy League. You will find everything you need to know about it on my Bachelor/ette Fantasy League site For The Love Of The Game … For Love
Here’s to an amazing 2014. Cheers!
Dear Miley Cyrus
Remember Miley Cyrus and that 2013 VMA performance? Yeah, like any of could forget. Here is a letter I wrote the morning after that infamous and my first post to go viral.
Let’s Keep It Real
When I began my blog, I promised myself that I wasn’t going to try to create a picture of my life that was anything less than authentic. There is something that happens when you are real with people, especially with other women. It gives them the opportunity to be real in return and the response that I got from this was incredible. To have dear friends and perfect strangers share with you the things they wish everyone would know about them is so powerful.
When A Picture is Worth Far More Than A 1,000 Words
The title of this post says it all. Our family had pictures done for the first time in 6 years and this post is a reflection on that along with some of the pictures from that session.
Paint By Numbers
Without a doubt, this is one of the most important pieces I’ve ever written because of what it says but also because of what it symbolizes. It was one of the first pieces that I ever published and it is still incredibly special to me.
Raising kids is really hard and especially when our truest desire is to raise them to be giants, boys who will be kind and true, who will love without fear and who will serve the least of these. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the things we need to tell them along the way, but if we teach them these five things, than we have succeeded.
I know I said top 5, but I had to include this one because, even though it didn’t get all of the page views or comments that the others did, it is my favorite post of 2013. And, since it’s my blog…. I do what I want.
Instead, Be Who You Are
